Fall Harvest

If you know anything about fall harvest you probably know more than me. This was my first harvest season and basically looked around in wonder and thought, thank God for google because what do you even do from here?….LOL

I would like to add that the gardening experience would be nothing without the community I have so amazingly been welcomed into and the  friendships I’ve been lucky to make. This experience is unique and in my opinion another miracle in so many ways. We are all newbies with a similar vision and just so happen to end up in the same place at the same time….. How God works things out is just amazing.  I will also add that the labouring was the best and most fulfilling past time I have had in a long time. I just love the learning and physical aspect, all while talking about deep ideals and frustrating world events that we all realize we have no real power over, other than the prayer we share. It feels so good getting back to the basics.

I have learned so much this past summer and fall in terms of the need of community and how vital it is for us all to get back to some of the activities that draw us together in learning and helping and being part of your local community with multi-generations for learning purposes. Perhaps that’s a given but I don’t see it nearly as celebrated as it should be. No one makes it solely on their own and as things get increasingly silly out there on an economic front here in Canada, sharing is caring and we need to be ready to serve and support one another in tangible ways. We all play a very important part in peoples lives and the gardening is just another fun and fruitful activity for us to enjoy together.

As for gardening advice, please don’t expect much from me in terms of how to at this point as I am primarily in the learning phase and am just truly thankful for the opportunity to learn and participate. I know it’s a very good idea to get started now and learning what you can, where you can. I also realize that it’s a gift and an opportunity that not everyone has at this time so don’t be offended at this post if you are unable to grow your own or even have an ability. Just do what you can to participate in your community where you can with what you have. Perhaps, this post is more to elevate the benefits for your financial, community, and physical wellbeing and if you were thinking of getting involved or making a way for yourself to do so I’m here to assure you that not only is it a good investment of time and money but it was fun, empowering and ever so satisfying… even healing if I might add. If you have children, I believe we should all be teaching kids to grow food, even if just a little. I was blessed to grow up in my mother’s garden and now more than ever realize the benefit and the gift those chores were. Just because food is easy to access now doesn’t mean it always will be and more importantly, what’s happening to our food these days is already having an impact on our health as a whole. I really think the time spent in the dirt this year was one of my best summer time investments I’ve made in a long time.

All in all I want to say that I had lots of great food this summer… probably ate more than I needed but was full of nutrition and I had the best time playing in the dirt.

Special thanks to my friends Vanessa and Trevor for inviting to participate in their exciting endeavour. Vanessa has a unique passion for herbal remedies and I as you know am very interested in natural healing and sourcing within our own local communities wherever possible. So without a doubt we have been blessed to find eachother on our own personal journey’s to health and happy living.
