I just wanted to share my latest concussion recovery update and share some of the things I believe helped me make a sudden shift in the right direction.
First and foremost I want to thank God and all those who have been diligently praying for me. I know that’s what’s helped me the most but I also believe that God gives practical ideas for healing be it through diet, medical help, rest or the like. So I wanted to share some of the ideas that I had while I was resting and trying to figure this thing out and what I ended up trying that perhaps lead to my sudden shift in good health and clarity.
Sunday, January 23rd which was one month and a week since my accident, I could barely get out of bed. The migraine and full-body were on another level of pain. I could barely even cry, but I’ll tell you, although I was praying I switched my prayer to praise and declared that I was healed….. ( I was not healed yet) I kept saying I am healed, I am healed with a few cries of Jesus why!!??? It was not easy and it has not been easy to believe I would get better anytime soon. But here I am, so let me tell you what I started to do with my diet as I had revelations on what might work. I want to share so if you are suffering from a concussion you will be able to find what you need in this.
Here is what I did to adjust my diet:
I cut caffeine- Yes, I thought this would be the worst thing ever but since I felt so horrible anyway it didn’t make a difference. When you are dealing with a concussion and you get to the point where you’ll do anything, I would highly recommend considering this the first place to start. Caffeine is a stimulant and although some good benefits not such a great idea for a brain that needs to rest and recover. I’ve had a sense for a long time I should be cutting caffeine anyway but just nothing pushed me over the edge to do it like this concussion. With that said, the ideas came, then I implement and then I started to do more research to verify my ideas and low and behold it’s something many doctors suggest. The reason is that caffeine has a variety of negative effects ( believe me, I love coffee and would on any other day defend the benefits of coffee like any great addict would;) But that’s just the thing, I had to look at how that might be affecting my brain while it was trying to recover. You might think that it would have given it a boost but that’s the last thing my overactive mind needed. I needed to rest.
I also cut simple sugar treats and chocolate, which I know I shouldn’t be eating regularly anyway but have been super slack on my discipline for a long time, I’d say even since my last accident last year. I know better, but being human, I think we can all fall prey to quick comfort and end up in a pattern that we need to knock but it takes a wake-up call to get us moving in the right direction again. Food can either give us life or slowly steel it and if it goes unchecked for a long time it could have devastating effects. Food now more than ever needs to be addressed as food companies around the world have come up with ways to make us addicted and slowly kill us so I don’t think my accident was an accident at all, I believe it was a wakeup call and a call to rise against a slack undisciplined diet life. I think it was time to cut the addictions ( coffee and sugar) and take better care of myself overall, maybe a sort of reboot or second chance to really cut those last little addictions and really get ready to fully be back on and at best body health. After 4 years of injury and setbacks, I’m ready now more than ever to be at full compacity. I just want to feel my best and I’m willing to do what it takes to make that happen. So bye-bye sugar and coffee, hello steady energy and focus, here I come. I hope you join me.

Of course there is a ton more on this pointing both negative and positive benefits but I think the proof is in the results. You just have to try and see what works best for you. I also want to say that cutting coffee ay first just like sugar will be hard. These are drugs and they have negative side effects when you are going through withdrawal but they are just like any bad relationship breakup, it’s not easy but when you are free you will feel so much better.
Some products I bought and feel have been helpful are my massager, My blue light glasses, which I truly feel have helped meet back to work and helped keep those headaches away. Being that I work in front of a screen all day it seemed like that was one of the biggest things causing me pain. I wear them all the time now.
Noon: Salmon & Salad ( cucumber, avocado, spinach, cheese)
7 pm: Random snack if I was hungry- celery and hummus, ( sometimes, but I wasn’t that hungry most days while I was resting from my workouts)
