Routines that produce results

It all comes down to the things we do on the regular. If there is something amiss in our life we can usually figure it out by taking inventory of our  thoughts and ultimately our actions. Let’s have a look at some things we can do daily to create a positive life no matter what’s going on in the world around us.

The best routine practices can vary depending on your goals (e.g., health, productivity, or personal growth), but here are some general daily habits that contribute to a balanced and effective routine:

1. Morning Routine

  • Wake up early: Give yourself some time before you dive into your day. This can help reduce stress and start the day on a calm note.
  • Hydrate: Drinking water with some lemon first thing in the morning helps wake up your body and boosts metabolism.
  • Exercise: Whether it’s just stretching to start the day, it sets the tone to remember that our body is the temple and we need to make time for its care. A walk or a full workout is great in the morning because you get it out of the way. This is a great way to get you focused for work.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast: Fuel your body with balanced nutrition. Let this be dependant on what you plan on doing the next 3-4 hours or what you may have ate the day before. We want to balance out our nutrition and look at the week and not just the day.
  • Meditation/prayer and mindfulness: Even a few minutes of breathing exercises can reduce stress and increase focus. I believe if we start first with the word of God (The Bible) We will set the tone of the day with acknowledgment that God is in control, we can trust Him but He is also watching and helping us make good choices so that we are not led into temptation.

2. Work or Study Routine

  • Time-blocking: Break your work into focused intervals (e.g., the Pomodoro technique: 25-minute work sprints followed by a 5-minute break).
  • Set clear goals for the day: Prioritize your tasks to stay focused on what matters most.
  • Minimize distractions: Limit notifications and interruptions to stay productive. Turn off the notifications and silence your phone if possible.

3. Movement and Physical Health

  • Regular exercise: Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week to keep your body and mind in shape.
  • Take breaks: Move around every hour to avoid physical discomfort and improve circulation.

4. Nutrition and Hydration

  • Eat balanced meals: Incorporate a variety of nutrients (protein, carbs, fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals).
  • Drink enough water: Staying hydrated helps maintain energy levels and focus.

5. Rest and Recovery

  • Sleep schedule: Try to go to bed and wake up at consistent times. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep to support your health and well-being.
  • Rest days: Taking a day off from intense physical activity can aid in muscle recovery and mental relaxation.

6. Personal Growth

  • Reading: Whether it’s for pleasure, learning, or self-improvement, reading regularly can expand your knowledge and keep your mind sharp.
  • Journaling: Reflecting on your day, writing about gratitude, or setting intentions for tomorrow can help you stay grounded.

7. Evening Routine

  • Wind down: Avoid screens an hour before bed to help your mind relax. Instead, engage in calming activities like reading, taking a warm bath, or practicing meditation.
  • Prepare for tomorrow: Organizing your space and setting out clothes can reduce decision fatigue in the morning.

8. Social Interaction and Mental Health

  • Spend time with loved ones: Social connections are important for your emotional well-being. Take inventory of the people you spend time with. Make sure they are of the growth mentality and want to see you and themselves succeed. Remember, you are the sum of the 5 people around you. If they aren’t growing with you, it may be time to move forward and find those who are. Not everyone that comes into your life is there to stay.
  • Self-care: Make time for activities that nurture your mental health, such as a hobby, relaxing bath, or simply disconnecting from work. Spending time with God and learning His ways will always be the best use of your self-care time.

Consistency with these practices is key. You don’t have to do everything perfectly each day, but aiming to incorporate these habits regularly can make a noticeable difference in your overall health and productivity.
